As the Edmonton Oilers still struggle to gain any leeway against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, defenseman Darnell Nurse is on the verge of becoming one of the worst playoff players in NHL history.

It is no secret that the Edmonton Oilers have struggled to gain traction in this year's Stanley Cup Finals. After pulling themselves up in the playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and Dallas Stars, they are down 3-0 against the Florida Panthers, meaning the Canadian team will need a miracle to become the fifth NHL team to ever pull off a reverse sweep.
"The Edmonton Oilers lost against last night 4-3 against the Florida Panthers. Florida leads the series 3-0.

A 3-0 deficit has occurred 211 times in NHL playoff history... and only 4 teams successfully overcame the deficit."
Despite their forward depth, the Edmonton Oilers have been unable to score enough goals to make a dent against the Florida Panthers. However, it appears the player struggling the most is their alternate captain and second-highest-paid member, defenseman Darnell Nurse.
Nurse is on the verge of becoming one of the worst playoff players in NHL history, now tied for the lowest +/- in any postseason. Nurse hares this boat of shame with former Calgary Flames defenseman Paul Reinhart, who had an overall -16 in the 1983 Stanley Cup playoffs when he was 23 years old.
"Lowest +/- in a postseason in NHL history:

-16 Darnell Nurse (2024)
-16 Paul Reinhart (1983)

Darnell's taking the record for himself, right?"
In 21 playoff games so far, Nurse has made 32 unsuccessful shots on goal and has only tallied 3 assists. This has many fans begging the question: Why is he still there with the second-highest pay?
The Edmonton Oilers will play Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight, with all players on deck to try to pull off the comeback of the season. However, suppose the Florida Panthers take tonight and successfully sweep the series. In that case, it is undeniable that Darnell Nurse's stint this year will remain in infamy as one of the worst playoff performances the NHL has seen.
