Insiders predict the Oilers will pay $40 million a year to keep top trio

After the Stanley Cup Finals the Edmonton Oilers will need to focus on securing their core players and a new report confirms it could become incredibly expensive.
During a discussion about the Edmonton Oilers window to win a Stanley Cup insider Frank Seravalli spoke about the future as well. Frank Seravalli said the Oilers need to take full advantage of the years they have their core 3 of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Evan Bouchard on lower contracts.
The Oilers need to make hay right now because they've got McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard only adding up to $25 million.
As Edmonton reporter Bob Stauffer and insider Frank Seravalli continued their conversation things shifted to the extensions of these 3 players. According to Frank Seravalli, he expects extensions for all 3.

As the conversation continued Frank Seravalli started connecting some numbers to the contracts of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Evan Bouchard. According to his sources, the 3 players could take up nearly 40 million dollars in cap space.
My point is two years from now when the Oilers take the ice, those three same guys are going to add up to $40 million bucks.
If this ends up being the case the Edmonton Oilers will be in a situation similar to the Toronto Maple Leafs a very top-heavy hockey club. The nice thing for the Oilers is that they have a defenseman in this group as opposed to the Maple Leafs who were all forwards on big money.
The Edmonton Oilers top priority will be extending Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Evan Bouchard. Once that gets done they will need to have an air tight plan on how to surround each of those three with players to compliment them. A goaltender also becomes a main priority at that point as well.
