Jeffrey Viel was signed by the Winnipeg Jets this off season to a one-year, one-way $775,000 contract for depth in the AHL and to protect the Jets prospects in the AHL.

The Bout

At 7:20 in the second period of the game between the Manitoba Moose and the Iowa Wild, Jeffrey Viel was took a two minute penalty for boarding. he also had to stand up for the fact that he boarded a Wild player. Unfortunately, the player to get Veil to drop the gloves was Daemon Hunt, a player not really known for fighting. What happened once the gloves were off was pretty predictable.
It was a pretty thorough clock cleaning by Veil.

Players Involved

Jeffrey Viel was a player that was never drafted, but he was signed by the San Jose Sharks once his QMJHL career was over. He played in the system for five years, from 2018-2023. He managed to play 49 NHL games between 2020 and 2023. In the 2021-22 season he played 34 of his 49 NHL games and amassed an amazing 114 penalty minutes.
Between 2014 and 2023, Viel only had one season below 100 penalty minutes, and that was an injury shortened campaign where he was up and down from the AHL and NHL a lot.
Daemon Hunt has never been known as a fighter. He was a third round selection in 2020 by the Minnesota Wild and he has been working his was in to getting known more by the organization on defense. Obviously, he will need to work on scoring and strong two-way defensive play to make the NHL instead of his fists.
