The Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets stunned NHL fans everywhere with a chaotic first game of the playoffs. Though the mayhem on the ice was already high, Jets fans kicked the tension into full gear after taunting Avs goaltender Alexander Georgiev.
After losing in the last three games against Winnipeg in the regular season, Colorado lost another one to the team despite scoring 6 goals. Yet, instead of taking their team's success with grace, jets fans instead took to taunting the Avalnche's goaltender, Alexander Georgiev. After Georgiev let 7 goals go with 22 shots, his opponents' fans began to shout "Pull the goalie."
While it is typically inappropriate to taunt players on the ice, these fans may have a point. Georgiev has not performed well against Winnipeg this season in the slightest, garnering a pitiful 6.42 GAA and .785 save percentage in their last few games.
With stats like that, it is hard to imagine Georgiev is not in his head, especially against a goaltender performing as well as Connor Hellebuyck. This ultimately led to Winnipeg's success in an unbelievably entertaining first game, winning 6-7.
