The Winnipeg Jets hosted the Colorado Avalanche for game one of the playoffs tonight. The game quickly turned into a shooting gallery as both goalies were not sharp. In the first period alone, the teams combined for six goals.
The game opened with Valeri Nichuskin taking advantage of a bad line change by the Jets to snipe one off the bar and in to give the Avs an early 1-0 lead. However, that was far from the only exciting play in the first period.Bad change for the Winnipeg Jets and Valeri Nichuskin scores to make it 1-0 Avs with this beautiful shot.
He had 28 goals in 54 games played this season (a 43 goal pace). Great player.

The teams would go on to exchange goals throughout the rest of the period, with the lead going back and forth multiple times. The Jets first responded with two goals of their own before the Avs would get two back, restoring their one-goal lead, this time making it 3-2. However, the Jets would tie the game late in the period, and that is where the scoring stopped for the first frame.
So that was the first 20 minutes of this playoff series 😮💨
Captain Adam Lowry would provide the game's only goal in the middle frame, a shot that Avalanche netminder Alexander Georgiev will want back. That gave the Jets a 4-3 lead going into the 3rd.
The Jets finally established themselves for good early in the 3rd period, getting goals from Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor to give them a 6-3 lead.
GIVE ME A HELL YEAH KYLE FRICKIN' CONNOR 🍗
The Avalanche won't go away quietly though as they have responded with a powerplay goal to cut the lead to two.
There is still time for the Avs to tie the game, and at this point, this series is must-watch hockey for every fan of the sport.
