Coming July 1st, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares will all be receiving signing bonuses of over $7 million each. This puts the Maple Leafs in a tough position coming into next season. Between the 4 skater the Maple Leafs are going to be shelling out over $40 million worth of signing bonuses on July 1st.
Auston Matthews will cashing a $15.925 million cheque. This amount of money tied up into just 4 players is going to make it a tough task for the Maple Leafs to clear space for the proper assets to have another winning team come next fall. Players like Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, and Nicholas Robertson are all on contracts that are set to expire come July 1st.
With this amount of money some are also calling for a trade of a core piece of the Leafs. The biggest name coming from trade rumours is Mitch Marner. Marner's contract is coming to an end after the end of next season and he will likely be taking home more money this time around which puts him in the hot seat for a trade to a team that has the cap space and is looking to compete.
