The Oilers signed Perry ahead of the trade deadline after his contract with the Chicago Blackhawks was terminated. The move seemed to make a lot of sense for the team, who got a veteran depth forward at a reasonable cost. However, they did offer him a bonus of 50,000 dollars if the team advanced to the Western Conference final. Now that that has happened, Perry will get the bonus, which will be applied to next season's cap.
Unfortunately for the Oilers though, Perry has been more or less invisible in the playoffs so far. Through ten games he has zero points, just 8 shots on goal, 6 penalty minutes, and is a minus 3. Perhaps his most notable moment came during a scrum in which he held his stick out in front of Brock Boeser to prevent the Canucks from joining in.
Needless to say, this is not a great look for the team. That being said, Connor Brown is hurting the team much more. Brown signed a unique deal with the Oilers this season that had him on a league minimum contract, but gave him a 3.25 million dollar bonus for playing 10 or more games. That has kicked in, adding that same total to next year's cap, when Brown likely won't even be on the team.
