It appears the Edmonton Oilers and General Manager Ken Holland are wasting no time in getting into discussion on an extension for one of the team's new acquisitions. Holland is reportedly offering Adam Henrique a multi-year contract.
Oilers and Henrique on the Verge of Three-Year Extension
According to an Oilers Insider X account, the standing offer to the 34-year-old Henrique is three years, with a cap hit of $3 million per season.
"Oilers and Adam Henrique have made significant process on contract extension. 3 million x 3 yr deal is on the table. Oilers looking to decreasing the aav number. With bonuses and etc"
$3 million per season may seem high for someone in their mid-30s, but there is some reasoning behind it. The belief is Henrique can get that, or possibly even more on the open market when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July.
"I believe he could fetch that plus some on the open market. The going rate for him was 1st. Oilers included more to get a better deal with Carrick and Henrique.

Adam Henrique and Edmonton Oilers Talking Extension
Henrique has never put up huge numbers offensively, but has been a consistent goal scorer. His best season was hitting the 30 goal mark in 2015-16 with the New jersey Devils. He's also had four other seasons where he scored 20 or more, and has 18 goals so far this year, meaning he should hit 20 again. Outside of that, Henrique is an excellent two-way centre, who is a leader on and off the ice and a stable presence for whatever team he's playing with. He's also a fast skater, with great hands and a nice shot. Henrique would be a perfect depth forward for any NHL team, including the Edmonton Oilers.
Henrique has played just four games with the Edmonton Oilers so far since coming over to the team in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks that also included Sam Carrick. He has one assist. In 64 games so far in 2023-24, Henrique has 18 goals and 24 assists for 43 points.
