According to an Oilers Insider X account, the standing offer to the 34-year-old Henrique is three years, with a cap hit of $3 million per season.
$3 million per season may seem high for someone in their mid-30s, but there is some reasoning behind it. The belief is Henrique can get that, or possibly even more on the open market when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July.
Henrique has never put up huge numbers offensively, but has been a consistent goal scorer. His best season was hitting the 30 goal mark in 2015-16 with the New jersey Devils. He's also had four other seasons where he scored 20 or more, and has 18 goals so far this year, meaning he should hit 20 again. Outside of that, Henrique is an excellent two-way centre, who is a leader on and off the ice and a stable presence for whatever team he's playing with. He's also a fast skater, with great hands and a nice shot. Henrique would be a perfect depth forward for any NHL team, including the Edmonton Oilers.
