Winnipeg Jets General Manager and Executive Vice-President Kevin Cheveldayoff is a highly respected business mind in the NHL. Being named to his positions in 2011 means he's one of the longest tenured GMs in the NHL right now, and it's for good reasons. Now, the 54-year-old may get another big role to add to his already impressive work history.

NHL-NHLPA Considering Huge Role for Jets' Kevin Cheveldayoff

According to TSN insider Pierre Lebrun, Cheveldayoff is one of the top candidates to be named general manager of the NHL-NHLPA 4-Nations Faceoff, which includes Canada, USA, Sweden, and Finland.

"Hockey Canada plans to name a GM for the NHL-NHLPA 4-Nations Faceoff this spring, most likely before the Stanley Cup playoffs. My sense is the top candidates are Kelly McCrimmon (Vegas Golden Knights), Don Sweeney (Boston Bruins), Kevin Cheveldayoff and Jim Nill (Dallas Stars).

Olympic GM Doug Armstrong (St. Louis Blues) will help advise."

The 4-Nations Face-Off is set to take place from Feb. 12-20, 2025, in two North American cities that have yet to be named.

"The in-season 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off will consist of a total of seven games played during a nine-day period from Feb. 12-20, along with two practice days, Feb. 10-11, and will be held in two yet-to-be named North American cities, one in Canada and one in the United States." - NHL.com

Jets GM May Play Important Role in 4 Nations Face-off

Cheveldayoff being considered as one of the top candidates for GM of the tournament shows just how well he's respected around the league, and the hockey world. That said, while the four named by Lebrun are certainly deserving of the role, there are some other names to consider as well. Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche, Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings, and Jim Rutherford of the Vancouver Canucks would also make great GMs for the event.

While I'm sure Cheveldayoff would love the chance to take of the role for the 4-Nations Face-Off, his main consideration at the moment is definitely the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and making sure the momentum the Jets had during the regular season continues when it matters most.
