The Edmonton Oilers were on the brink of elimination in Saturday's Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, with the Florida Panthers eyeing their first-ever championship. The high stakes led to rising tensions, boiling over midway through the game.

During a post-whistle scrum, two of the most crucial players in the series clashed, sparking major reactions from fans. The Oilers eventually dominated Game 4 with an 8-1 victory, avoiding a sweep by the Panthers.

As the goals kept piling up against Sergei Bobrovsky, frustration got the better of Florida. After a whistle, Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk put Edmonton's superstar Connor McDavid in a headlock and landed a few punches.
Mathew Tkachuk asked about getting a few punches in on Connor McDavid. Says it was a scrum and just «classic playoff hockey.

McDavid had a different perspective when asked about the altercation. He explained that he got involved because Tkachuk and Sam Bennett were double-teaming Zach Hyman.
I didn't throw very many punches. That's not the game I want to play. That's not my job to really do. I'm just there to make sure no one's getting outnumbered, and I thought Hyman was getting doubled up on by Bennett and Tkachuk, so I just tried to jump in there and do my part as a teammate. Everybody's got to jump in there in those moments.
