As trade talks around the Toronto Maple Leafs forward continue to heat up, one reporter for the New York Islanders has caught flack for his proposal to acquire Mitch Marner.

Mitch Marner is unquestionably a skilled right winger for the Toronto Maple Leafs and was able to post 26 goals and 59 assists for 85 points in the regular season. despite a less impressive showing in the playoffs, the team made it known they did not commit to trading the player away from the team.
"The Leafs are not leaning on Mitch Marner right now. They have not decided 100 percent they have to trade him and or that they're going to make life uncomfortable and they're getting the list of names. None of that's what's going on."
Despite this development, many fans and reporters have continued making their interest in the 27-year-old forward known, posting their own trade proposals all over the internet. However, New York Islanders reporter David Kolb is under fire for his proposal to trade Mitch Marner to the team for Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock, and a draft pick.
"So, what's the plan? How do the Islanders land a skill like Marner? Or maybe the right question is, how does a trade between the Islanders and Maple Leafs benefit and make sense for both clubs? Here's the basic idea: The Islanders dish Adam Pelech ($5.75 M AAV) or Ryan Pulock ($6.15 M) and a draft pick(s) for Marner. New York picks up much-needed offense while the Leafs gain cap space and a defensive playoff-tested presence, improving a leaky Toronto blueline. Fair trade for both teams, right?"
However, most people would disagree with Kolb's last leading question. Marner is an expensive player and would take up far too much of the Islanders' cap space. Additionally, trading a winger for defensive players could be a bad lineup for New York, ultimately replacing one problem with another. Whichever way you cut it, there does not seem to be a reasonable trade that could exist between the two.
While it seems to be a done deal that Mitch Marner will not go to the New York Islanders, anything can happen during trading season. Hopefully wherever he ends up will not be a total loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs, even if that means remaining there for one more season.
