It is no secret that the Edmonton Oilers have struggled to surround their star players for years now. A new report from a trusted NHL insider has suggested the team is looking to add a star to play with Leon Draisaitl.

Oilers On The Verge Of Acquiring A Linemate For Draisaitl?

The Edmonton Oilers in years past have been unable to surround Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl with players to support them. In previous years this has led the Oilers to need to put the two together on a line.
A new report has revealed that the Oilers' top priority heading into the trade deadline is to solve this problem. According to insider Darren Dreger, Oilers GM Ken Holland is working the phones to make this happen.
What about the Edmonton Oilers? Now in a perfect scenario, we know the Oilers would like to add a forward to help Leon Draisaitl in the top six.

While of course, the Oilers would love to have this happen the forward market is quite thin at the moment. If the Oilers cannot find a compliment to Draisaitl they might be forced to pivot according to Dreger.

Insider Reveals Oilers Backup Plan If They Cannot Trade For A Top Six Winger

With such a premium placed on top six forwards this season Dreger believes that trade could be difficult to pull off. Instead, Dreger suggested another move to improve the overall depth of the forward unit instead.
But, they're also looking at what Adam Henrique might bring from the Anaheim Ducks as a third-line center. So there are several options that the veteran general manager Ken Holland is looking at in Edmonton as well.
With this type of move, the Oilers would solidify their third-line center spot. It would also provide them with a veteran who can play top-six minutes if needed if the Oilers decide to put McDavid and Draisaitl together once again.
As the deadline draws near it will be fun to see which approach the Oilers take a home run swing or a reliable addition.
