With the NHL's free-agency period underway, the Edmonton Oilers extended Stanley Cup-winning forward Corey Perry to a one-year contract.

Corey Perry has been an NHL forward for 19 years and has kept his mind on the game as he approaches retirement age. Though a long while beyond his Stanley Cup win with the Anaheim Ducks, he has been very public about his plan to stay active for the foreseeable future.
"Corey Perry isn't going anywhere. The Edmonton Oiler has no plans to retire at 39, saying he has another 5 years left in him."
Yet, with the player's age getting higher and speed getting lower, Oilers fans were worried about his ability to produce following his trade from the Chicago Blackhawks. However, after the player's performance in this year's playoffs, Edmonton decided it was enough to sign this player on for another year.
"COREY'S CONFIRMED ☑️

The #Oilers have re-signed forward Corey Perry to a one-year, $1.4 million contract."
Though this is clearly a great deal for Corey Perry, who is nearing 40 rapidly, fans are not convinced this will work out in Edmonton's favor. The veteran forward has become associated with an NHL curse, in which viewers believe any team with him will not win in the Stanley Cup Finals.
With this deal already confirmed, there is nothing fans can do to reverse Edmonton's decision. For Corey Perry, however, he will simply have to try to make this year worth it and break his curse. Otherwise, the Oilers and Canada's drought will continue for the foreseeable future.
