We thought goaltender Jacob Markstrom being traded from the Calgary Flames to the New Jersey Devils would've happened earlier.

The deal was almost finalized at the deadline, with Markstrom even waiving his no-trade clause, but it fell through due to issues with salary retention.
Now, in the offseason, the trade has transpired. Calgary GM Craig Conroy and Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald have agreed on a blockbuster deal which has sent the all-star netminder to the Garden State.
Markstrom to the Devils. In return Calgary gets 23 year old Dman Kevin Bahl and a 1st round pick in 2025
Markstrom, who has two years remaining on his contract with an AAV of $6 million, will now join the Devils and become their backbone between the pipes.
This move is significant as the Devils have been searching for an all-star goaltender to bolster their chances of becoming serious Stanley Cup contenders.
Markstrom had a full no-move clause, so he had to waive it to accommodate this trade. Coming from the rebuilding Flames, he is expected to make a big impact in New Jersey. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
