The Florida Panthers seemed to have destiny on their side, Matthew Tkachuk dove to save the puck from going into the empty net, which was about to seal Game 5 for the Edmonton Oilers.

Trailing 4-3 with 21 seconds remaining, they would have one more chance to send the game to overtime and keep their hopes of clinching their maiden Stanley Cup on home ice if they could get possession of the puck.
Only the tank had already run out on Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who despite being the Cats best blueliner of the night and scoring an early third period goal to slice the deficit, once 4-1 to 4-3, quit on the play.
He was beat by Connor McDavid and left his man, keeping him wide open for the superstar's second goal and fourth point of the night, sealing the Oilers 5-3 win, sending the series back to Edmonton for Game 6. As you can imagine, fans didn't take this well.
Tkachuk makes an all-time great goal-line save and Ekman-Larsson just...gives up on the play and lets McDavid score anyways.

With the Stanley Cup in the building, come on man.
One can argue he thought the puck was already in, or it wouldn't have mattered, or he didn't see McDavid and by the time he realized it was too late. Still, it's a bad look for a veteran player chasing his first Stanley Cup.
This moment highlights the necessity of a full team effort to win. The clip will be a focal point in head coach Paul Maurice's' next video session. Seeing an incredible effort from Tkachuk, who had a goal and an assist following his victory guarantee, only for his teammate giving up is tough.
The series shifts back to Rogers Place for Game 6 on Friday night, with the Panthers looking to close out the series on their third attempt, while the Oilers seek a Game 7.
