The DeBrincat Trade

Two weeks ago, the Ottawa Senators traded Alex DeBrincat to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional first-round pick in 2024, and a fourth-round pick of the same draft.

DeBrincat was determined to leave Ottawa, and his wish was granted with this trade.

Dominik Kubalik, another player involved in the trade, shared his thoughts about moving to the Senators.

Kubalik had an impressive performance last season, scoring 20 goals. During his rookie season, he scored 30 goals. Like DeBrincat, Kubalik is entering his fifth NHL season and will now be playing for his third NHL team.

In a recent interview with the Czech website isport.blesk.cz, he talked about the trade.

«I wasn't necessarily prepared for the trade, but I knew it could happen. Now I'm just looking ahead.»

He was later asked if facing Canada, with D.J. Smith (current Sens head coach) as their assistant coach, during the World Championship could have influenced his move to Ottawa, considering he scored eight goals in the tournament.

«It could have had some impact.» - Kubalik

We are excited to see him play for the Senators next season, and they are expected to be a strong contender in the Atlantic Division.
