The Boston Bruins lost a ton of depth at the center position this offseason when both of their top-two centers decided to retire. As a result, the team may be looking to bring in centers at the trade deadline and now one player in particular has emerged as a likely target.
Among the top center options that should be available at the trade deadline this year is Montreal Canadiens center Sean Monahan. The 29-year-old has presumably been on the market all season as the Canadiens are clearly still rebuilding and are not expected to make the playoffs. Monahan, on the other hand, has rejuvenated his career with the Canadiens after he was traded along with picks to Montreal as a cap dump. Darren Dreger reported today that he believes Monahan will be one of the first players off the market.
He also added that the Bruins would be a natural fit for the team, considering their lack of depth at center. Dreger also mentioned the Avalanche, Oilers, and Capitals as teams that have expressed interest in the veteran center. Monahan has 11 goals and 24 points in 42 games so far this year with Montreal.
