Just when you think the legendary player is done he proves he might not be.

Kovalchuk Expected to Make Major Career Anouncement

Ilya Kovalchuk a superstar in both the NHL and the KHL has just released a statement regarding his professional playing career.
"I have not officially finished my career. The last match is definitely not my thing. If you go out, you need to play, help the team. We will communicate first of all with the head coach of Spartak, Alexei Zhamnov, to understand what are the tasks and interests, so that it will primarily benefit the team. The decision on the contract will be within two weeks," - Ilya Kovalchuk, Sports24.ru
The now 40-year-old forward has not played professional hockey since winning the KHL's Gagarin Cup with Avangard Omsk.
While never playing for the Spartak Moscow in the KHL he did come up through the team's youth system.

Kovalchuk's Legendary Career

Ilya Kovalchuk has had a very long professional playing career bouncing from the KHL and the NHL.
He was drafted first overall in 2001 by the Atlanta Thrashers, he ended up playing 3 seasons for them before going back to Russia for a season then coming back again to play another 5 seasons with the Thrashers before going to the Devils.

Kovalchuk played 4 seasons with the Devils before departing back to the KHL for 5 seasons before joing the LA Kings for 2 seasons, then finished his last two NHL seasons with Montreal and Washington.
Kovalchuk currently has 926 NHL games tallying a career total of 443 goals and 876 career points, his last KHL game was back in the 2020-21 season.
