The investigation into the 2018 World Juniors scandal involving Team Canada is ongoing, and it's becoming more and more clear just how much of an effect it's having on so many people.
Cale Makar among others could miss the 2026 Olympics for Team Canada
Despite the fact that London Police have confirmed that only Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Alex Forementon, Michael McLeod and Cal Foote will be getting charged, Hockey Canada have stuck to their guns.
As part of this statement, Hockey Canada says all players from that team remain suspended from international competition under its umbrella. Next year's Four Nations Faceoff is not part of this, as it is an NHL/NHLPA event
During their latest statement, Hockey Canada confirmed that everyone on that team, Cale Makar, Drake Batherson, Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou included will be ineligible to compete for Canada at the Olympics and any event that involves representing their country.
Cale Makar speaks out on this strange ruling from Hockey Canada
Now, after this story has made the rounds, Makar, the Calgary native has now spoken out about the ongoing situation.
«It's tough. I've been told not to comment on that ongoing investigation. I've been straightforward from the start. I wasn't there,» Makar said. «It was a very fortunate bounce to not obviously be a part of something like that. I'm just going to leave it to the people who are handling the work right now. I can't stress enough that I wasn't part of that.»
It's clear that even those not involved have been instructed not to say much about the event, with Makar reiterating that he was not present when this took place. He didn't open too much on the Olympic ban, but given that he wasn't even in the same city when this took place, the hope is that Team Canada can change their stance before the 2026 Olympics roll around.
