Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand may have played his last game of the season following a high hit from Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
The hit put Marchand in concussion protocol, as reported by Rich Keefe of the RichKeefeShow and the Dork Podcast.
While it's uncertain if the injury is season-ending, it is serious enough to sideline Marchand for games four and five.
Losing their captain would be a significant blow to the Bruins' Stanley Cup Playoff aspirations. They absolutely cannot lose a top player and captain in Brad Marchand at this point of the series.
This incident isn't the first time Sam Bennett has been involved in controversial playoff plays; he injured Matthew Knies of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Marchand's absence would severely impact the Boston Bruins, potentially escalating an already heated playoff series.
As Patrick Maroon once directed at Matthew Tkachuk, it's crucial to keep a cool head and avoid dirty play. Bennett, who has a history of this dirty nature, won't adhere to Maroon's commands and likely will taunt the Bruins bench over the next few games.
The NHL's decision not to impose any supplemental discipline on Sam Bennett, especially after issuing a warning to both teams before game three, hasn't helped ease tensions.
Bennett is likely to become the target of the Bruins' fiery nature in game four, given their captain's injury.
