Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness expected to announce retirement

This morning NHL insider Darren Dreger announced some surprising news regarding the future of Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness. According to the insider Rick Bowness is expected to step away from the NHL and retire.

On X this morning Darren Dreger dropped a bombshell that indicates the Winnipeg Jets will be in the market for a new head coach. The opening comes after current head coach Rick Bowness is expected to retire.

Coaching news out of Winnipeg this morning. It's expected @NHLJets Head Coach Rick Bowness will announce his retirement today. Bowness has coached over 2600 games in the NHL and is a Jack Adams Award finalist for the first time. Great man. Great career.

While surprising the retirement of Rick Bowness also makes sense to a certain degree. Earlier this season Rick Bowness took time away from the team after his wife dealt with significant health problems.

#NHLJets coach Rick Bowness has taken a leave of absence to be with his wife, Judy, who is hospitalized after suffering a seizure Sunday night. She's undergoing further testing. Associate coach Scott Arniel is running practice today and will be interim coach until Bowness returns

After such a difficult time it makes sense that Rick Bowness would want to take a step back and enjoy more time with his family. As Rick Bowness heads off into his retirement we wish him and his family all the best.
