Jets reporter Ken Wiebe believes that the Jets have some big moves to make before next season.

Jets Have Some Big Moves In Store

Today, Winnipeg Jets reporter Ken Wiebe did a mailbag where he went over what he believes the Jets will do before next season.

What The Jets Need To Do To Keep Hellebuyck

In the mailbag, Wiebe went over how what the Jets need to do to keep Connor Hellebuyck in town.
"The Jets will likely need to make Hellebuyck one of if not THE highest paid goalie in the NHL to convince him to stick around beyond this season."

Wiebe also touched on what he thinks the Jets have offered Hellebuyck.
"I suspect the Jets have offered a shorter-term deal for higher money but no, I don't think that's something Hellebuyck and his camp would be interested in agreeing to at least not at the moment."

This could be a cause for alarm as the Jets could have offered Hellebuyck a big contract that he rejected in favor of wanting a longer contract. If it comes down to it, the Jets may need to ship him out for a haul.

The Scheifele Situation

Wiebe also touched up on the Mark Scheifele situation and speculated on whether or not the Bruins would be good trade partners for the Jets considering how the Bruins lost David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron.
"The Bruins don't have a top centre or top centre prospect that they could ship back in return.

Defenceman Brandon Carlo would make sense but he has modified no-trade protection that kicked in on July 1 and the Jets would likely need to take some additional salary back to make the dollars work in any deal.

That's not to say the Jets wouldn't consider a package involving goalie Jeremy Swayman and forward Trent Frederic, both of whom had their arbitration cases heard this summer."

Wiebe also mentioned how the money would be difficult to work out considering how Scheifele makes over $6 million and the Bruins have less than $500,000 in cap space.
While we are entering the quiet days of the offseason, the Jets have a lot of business left to be done and will be working hard on getting Hellebuyck and Scheifele under contract or moved out for a top return.
