Phil Kessel remains unsigned ahead of the 2023-24 season and he has let teams know that he is willing to make a major sacrifice to continue his career.

Kessel's Streak

Phil Kessel is known as a few things in the hockey community. Some know him as the hot dog guy, others know him as the guy who lit the NHL on fire with the Penguins, but most know him as the NHL's Ironman.

His record currently sits at 1,064 games and is still active. He started the streak with the Maple Leafs in 2009 and has not looked back since. Playing with the Maple Leafs, Penguins, Coyotes, and Golden Knights during his streak, he has proven himself as one of the most consistent NHLers ever.

However, it appears that his streak is on its last legs as Kessel remains without a contract for now.

The Sacrifice

Phil Kessel has reportedly let teams know that he is willing to let his streak die if he can continue his career.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion wants to play again in 2023-24. But, the most significant detail is that he's let teams know it won't be a problem if he's not an every-day player.

He is 8 points shy of the 1,000-point barrier and that is undoubtedly a mark he wants to reach. He also likely wants to win another cup so he will likely look towards other contending teams for his next contract, even the Golden Knights if they want to keep him around.
