This NHL Insider just revealed some crucial information on Elias Pettersson's potential to re-sign in Vancouver.

Pettersson Crucial to Vancouver's Rebuild Process

Elias Pettersson is one of Vancouver's crucial building blocks in their ongoing rebuild. His 102-point season last year was a statement, showing that he can lead the Canucks back into contention if the right pieces are put around him.
Elias Pettersson in his last 116 games:
61 goals. 91 assists. 152 points. Elite.

He is already off to a hot start in his contract year, putting up 10 points in his first 5 games of the season. If he continues to produce at a high rate, the question becomes whether or not he will want to stay in Vancouver, as surely he will have the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing a new team if he wants. Apparently, he might not be interested.

Friedman Reveals Crucial Information on Pettersson Negotiations

According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Pettersson is willing to stay in Vancouver, under the right circumstances.
"The impression I got from my interview with Elias Pettersson was he wants to play somewhere where winning matters. And he knows he can get that in Vancouver. If they can prove to him that they're trending in the right direction, I believe he will sign" -Friedman on 32 thoughts

This is good news for Canucks fans, as it places the responsibility squarely on management's shoulders to get an extension done. It also shows that the Canucks are doing a good job in building a culture of winning if Pettersson believes he can get it done in Vancouver.
