The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the better-performing teams in the league this year, tending to stay near the top ten spots. However, after losing against Carolina in last night's home game, the final score seems to be far from the team's biggest problem.
The Maple Leafs were ahead of the Hurricanes 4-2 with only a couple minutes left in the game. Yet, almost unsurprisingly, Toronto gave up a penalty and blew this lead to Sebastian Aho, forcing them into overtime. The Maple Leafs, evidently could not cinch it out, losing in a shootout.
While one coach may seem to want to hand out participation trophies, the team's fans are much less forgiving of this blown lead, and even less so of Keefe. There was some decent playing on the ice, but you cannot get away with blaming an entire loss on statistics or officials.
It is clear that Keefe can play the nice guy all he wants, but this surely has not been enough to push his team to perform better. If he wants to remain head coach and get Toronto a chance in the playoffs, something massive has to change for this team.
