William Nylander has emerged as one of the Maple Leafs best players in recent years, but given how cash strapped they are, his very rich extension talks have now come to a halt.
Due to this, the rumour mill is now in overdrive, with the 27-year old winger being linked to every team imaginable, and now, another team has reportedly joined the race.
According to Eklund of Hockey Buzz, the Maple Leafs have potentially made contact with the Calgary Flames, who could send them a package in return centred around top blue line talent Noah Hanifin.
Given that the blue line is Toronto's biggest weakness right now, this is a move that makes perfect sense, and with Calgary being the home town of Nylander, it begins to be a deal that makes more and more sense.
After another solid year with 87 points, Nylander would pair perfectly with Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm, and if the Leafs could make a top blue line pairing of Morgan Rielly and Hanifin, it could be a franchise changing deal for both teams.
