For months now, speculation has circled around three-time Stanley Cup Champion Patrick Kane, and with his free agency decision nearing, one NHL legend has given a surprising take.
Throughout the off-season while he was undergoing hip surgery, Kane was linked to seemingly every contender in the NHL, but that number has seemingly narrowed in recent days to just 8 teams that will meet with him this week.
Now however, Wayne Gretzky has offered a different take, claiming that Kane should sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are coming off three Stanley Cup appearances in the past five years.
At the current moment, the Lightning are one of the most experienced teams in the NHL, boasting the likes of Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevsky and Victor Hedman, and while Kane would be a boost, it would be a big risk.
Ultimately, Kane is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal, something that teams like Detroit and Buffalo are likely to offer, and unless Tampa Bay come to the table with that kind of offer, it's unlikely to come to fruition.
