Things just keep getting worse for the Ottawa Senators, and it doesn't look like it's going to get better for a while. With new reports stating that one of their most controversial players will be staying in Europe for the time being, things are looking grim.

Formenton Signs an Extension in Europe

Former Ottawa Senators forward Alex Formenton has officially extended his contract with Ambr-Piotta, the club he played for last season in the Swiss NL.
Alex Formenton has signed a deal to return to Ambr-Piotta in the Swiss League until Christmas. It can be extended through the rest of the season. #Sens

His absence from the NHL is due to the ongoing investigation into allegations that Formenton, along with other members of the 2018 Canadian World Juniors team were involved in the group assault of a girl.

Ambr-Piotta Release a Statement

Shortly after news of his re-signing was made official, Ambr-Piotta put out a statement regarding Formenton and his future.
"The club is aware that there is an ongoing investigation and to date there has been no charge nor conviction against the player. The club reserves the right to review the contractual situation with the player should new elements emerge.

"The player, for his part, has the possibility of returning to the NHL at any time if the second investigation were to resolve like the first with nothing done. Out of respect for the ongoing investigations, the player and club will not release further statements on the situation."

While things seem okay between Formenton and his team for now, that could very easily change depending on the results of the investigation.
