Jacob Trouba is the captain of the New York Rangers, but this off-season the team appear ready to move on. That may not happen now for a shock reason.

After a disappointing playoff performance, fans of the Rangers were looking to run Jacob Trouba out of town this off-season, and it almost worked. Over the past week, it became clear that the Rangers were looking to move their fresh captain, with the Detroit Red Wings reportedly closing in on a deal.
The Rangers are reportedly attempting to trade Jacob Trouba to the Red Wings, but hurdles remain
With a no-movement clause, Trouba had control over his future, and it's now been revealed that his wife's residency was the reason behind blocking a trade to the Red Wings.
When Trouba signed this current seven-year, $56M contract.. his five-year no-movement clause was designed to expire in conjunction with his wife Kelly Tyson-Trouba's completion of her three-year residency ...Her residency was deferred for a year. It now ends July 1st 2025 #NYR
This doesn't rule out a trade to a team closer to home over the next few months, but as of right now, it appears there's nothing imminent for Jacob Trouba, which may hinder the Rangers chances of targeting big free agents this summer.
