The Toronto Maple Leafs have a big decision to make on Mitch Marner, and before free agency, Ryan O'Reilly was insistent that Nashville make a deal.

The start of free agency was wild for the Nashville Predators, as the team landed the star trio of Brady Skjei, Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, going all in to push for a deep playoff run. However, things could have been so much different, as Nick Kypreos has reported that Ryan O'Reilly pushed for the team to go all in on trading for Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner.
«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, eq-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said.
Now, things are obviously off the table, as the team have now spent over $15 million on the three players named above, but the idea that ROR pushed for this shows just how respected Marner's talents are around the NHL. Now, the veteran winger is running out of suitors, and given that he's got one year remaining on his deal before he hits free agency in 2025, all signs now point to No. 16 playing out his contract in Toronto.
