The Oilers have become one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season. Having started at 31st overall, going on a 16-game winning streak, and then falling to their now 11th overall position, it is hard to imagine any other being quite this volatile. However, amidst the rises and falls of Edmonton's game up to this point, a new star is emerging on the team.

Zach Hyman Taking Draisaitl's Title On The Oilers

Edmonton has largely caught headlines this season for two players in particular. The first is Connor McDavid, who was the winner of the recent All-Stars skill competition and is often considered the best player in the NHL right now. The other is center Leon Draisaitl, who has been one of the best scoring players for the Oilers up to this point. Yet, one left-winger has officially taken over the team in terms of goals scored.

The 31-year-old left-winger Zach Hyman has officially made 40 goals this season, which is the first time someone other than the aforementioned star Oilers has done so for over 30 years. This was before Hyman was even born.

"Zach Hyman is the first #LetsGoOilers player not named McDavid or Draisaitl to score 40 goals in a season since Petr Klima in 1990-91."

This is a remarkable achievement, not just for Hyman and his team, but for anyone in the NHL. He is only the second player to do so this season, crossing the barrier about a month after Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"ZACH HYMAN IS A 40-GOAL SCORER! 4️⃣0️⃣

He's the second player to reach 40 goals this season!"

McDavid Fans Not Impressed With Hyman

While most would expect Oilers fans to be happy for any win on their favorite team, it appears this is not always the case. Though Hyman reached this astounding milestone in his career, many die-hard McDavid fans have been discrediting this as not his own doing.

While those critical do have a point that he owes much of this credit to McDavid as a team player, this may be a little short-sided. It is not often in hockey someone scores a goal without any help from other teammates.

Whether or not you believe much of the credit goes to any other teammate, it is clear Hyman is on a roll and does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. It will be fascinating to watch how many more goals he can score as the season continues to heat up.
