Insider Reveals the True Details on Why Jay Woodcroft Was Fired

This NHL insider just revealed exactly why he believes Jay Woodcroft was fired, which goes against what some are saying is the reason.

When the Edmonton Oilers Announced that they were firing Jay Woodcroft after their extremely poor start to the year, many began to speculate as to who was making the decision. Some thought that the players wanted to upheave Woodcroft, others thought that it could have bene to appease McDavid and bring in his former Junior Coach.

Now, Elliotte Friedman has taken to his 32 Thoughts podcast to discuss exactly why he believes Woodcroft was fired.

"I will say this until I am blue in the face, this coaching change was not about Jay Woodcroft, it was not," said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "This coaching change was about Edmonton cannot afford a disastrous season, so what are we going to do to try to change things."

Friedman believes that no matter who was the coach in Edmonton, they would have been fired at this juncture in the season. It's clear something needs to change in Edmonton, and the Coach is often the first to go since it is the easiest position to fill.

What is also interesting is that Friedman strongly believes that the decision to get rid of Woodcroft was made by Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson, not their General Manager Ken Holland. This is troubling news for Oilers fans, as it furthers the narrative that Holland and Jackson are not on the same page for how to get out of this crisis.

"I think at the end of the day Jeff Jackson made this call," said Friedman. "The fact that it was Kris Knoblauch that says to me it was Jackson's call. I don't think the players overthrew Jay Woodcroft, I don't buy that."

"Holland was the guy who brought in Woodcroft and there's a new sheriff in town," said Friedman.

This type of power shift is not what the Oilers need right now. They need a clear-cut plan to get them out of the mess that is the start of the season, and they need to be on the same page about it.
