Bedard is perhaps the most hyped prospect to join the NHL since Connor McDavid. As such, it is understandable why reporters and fans alike would make such comparisons. However, doing so could be detrimental to a young player like Bedard, who is trying to create his own identity on the ice. That being said, the 18-year-old handled the question quite well.
However, the emerging NHL superstar did seem a bit annoyed by the question. It did come across that he wanted to create his own identity instead of piggybacking off of Kane. This is likely something Bedard will have to deal with throughout his career though as he will likely join Kane among the best Hawks players of all time.
Unfortunately for the rookie, he did miss some significant time this season after he broke his jaw. However, the injury did not seem to slow him down much as he has been just as good immediately upon returning to the ice. If anything, he's been even better than before as he has 6 points in 4 games since returning, including his first career three-point night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The rookie center is up to 17 goals and 39 points on the season in just 43 games played. Assuming he remains healthy for the remainder of the season, he could easily win the Calder trophy as rookie of the year.
