Despite landing one of the most hyped first-overall picks in a while, this season hasn't been an easy one for the Chicago Blackhawks. The situation was made worse when the team terminated its contract with veteran Corey Perry, who was brought in to mentor the team's young players.

Chicago GM Davidson on How the Corey Perry Situation was Handled

Speaking about the situation in a year-end interview, General Manager Kyle Davidson said he was satisfied with how the situation was handled, and is glad it's in the past.

"We handled it and we got through it, but I'm happy it's in the past."

Davidson said while getting rid of Perry was the right move, that didn't make it easy.

"These jobs aren't easy. You're responsible for so many people. Whether it's that (Perry) event or something very different with Kevin (Korchinski, whose father died) and his family, you feel everything, because you care about your players and your staff, and you care about their families."

"When something happens and it's a positive, you feel that in a great way. When it's a negative, you feel that in a really negative way. You carry a lot of the ups and downs of the group in your everyday job"

Perry's contract was terminated after he travelled to Columbus a week in advance of the Blackhawks' game there, and was involved in a situation with a Blackhawks' employee. While Davidson is likely right in his assessment that it was the right thing to do, the move has certainly weakened the team, and makes progress that much more difficult.
