In anticipation of tomorrow night's game, Jake Guentzel shared some thoughts about his first game against his former team in Pittsburgh.

Guentzel has played with the Penguins since the 2016-2017 season but was recently acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes in a deal at the 2024 trade deadline. Now, the two teams remain separated in the overall rankings, with the Canes fifth and the Penguins at 24th.
However, this veteran player has the tough task of playing against his former teammates. Despite this, the player expressed his excitement for his return to Pittsburgh, discussing the rarity of such an opportunity.
"It's going to be emotional. It's going to be fun. It's a special place in our family's hearts and it'll be a cool experience."

As the Penguins continue downward, Guentzel is producing well for Carolina.

Pittsburgh's team has been falling out of favor since before Jake Guentzel was traded, and the chances of them making it to the playoffs this year are nearly as thin as they get at this point. On top of this, the Penguins are not attracting enough fans to their games, and their power players are simply getting too old to keep up with a younger league.
Despite the failures of his former team, Guentzel has continued to be a productive player for Carolina. In just his first eight games with the team, he has made 2 goals and 10 assists. This leaves their record with him at 6-1-1.
"The Hurricanes are 6-1-1 since Jake Guentzel made his team debut. In addition to outscoring opponents 16-0 when he is on the ice, the Hurricanes are:
+62 in shot attempts
+24 in slot shots
+8 in high-danger chances"
Given his continued dominance on the ice and statements expressing his excitement, it is unlikely Guentzel will throw away a chance at beating Pittsburgh. Whether or not the Penguins will let it happen will remain in question until tomorrow night.
