The NHL have been stern and thus far consistent in their punishments for things happening on the ice this season, and now, they've set a major precedent for 'unprofessional conduct'.
While there are those out there that would argue this just protects officials further from criticism, there's no doubting that professional conduct should still remain at all times, so the hope is that this fine will prevent that from happening in the future.
Cronin was indeed ejected by the officials after the blowup, but now with such a precedent set, it's on the NHL to continue being consistent until this type of conduct isn't seen on the ice from players or coaches.
