St. Louis's Pursuit of Conor Garland

Conor Garland's name has been swirling in trade rumors for the past few months. He is currently under a $4.95 million contract for this year and the following two seasons.
It's well-known that the Vancouver Canucks are interested in giving Garland a fresh start, and there are teams eyeing the American forward's talents.
One such team is the Montreal Canadiens, with head coach Martin St. Louis rumored to be actively advocating for acquiring Garland. Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com reports the following:
"I know [the Canadiens] are currently talking to Vancouver about Connor Garland, and would love to make that deal if the Canucks were to take 50% of the salary. Currently I hear that Vancouver is stuck around 30 to 35% of the salary. This feels almost too close of a difference to imagine a deal couldn't get done. Marty St. Louis apparently is pushing hard for this one"

Garland: A Perfect Match for Martin St. Louis

Similar to St. Louis, Garland is a relatively undersized forward, standing at 5'10" and weighing 165 lbs. However, Garland shares St. Louis's fearless style of play, consistently going into high-traffic areas to create scoring opportunities.
Like St. Louis, Garland also requires the right system and linemates to thrive. St. Louis began his career in Calgary, where he scored 20 points in 69 games before moving to Tampa Bay, where he blossomed into the Hall-of-Famer he is today. This doesn't imply that Garland will become a superstar in Montreal, but rather that he's likely to experience a significant shift in production.
So far this season, Garland has tallied three points in 10 games. This early-season slump in production could potentially bridge the gap in trade negotiations between the Canucks and the Canadiens, making it more likely for St. Louis's desired trade to materialize.
