We're a few days away from the official NHL trade deadline on March 8, but a big trade has been made anyway. The Calgary Flames have traded a major piece of trade bait to a Stanley Cup contender in the West.

While the full return in not yet known. The Dallas Stars have picked up 34-year-old Tanev for a pick and a prospect.

"Tanev off the board goes to Dallas for a second round pick and a prospect."




"Awaiting full deal, but hearing Tanev trade to Dallas will involve a second-round pick, a young prospect and a conditional pick."

If you're getting ready for a playoff run, Tanev is exactly the guy you want on your blueline and your locker room. He's the type of player that always give 100 percent, and is a leader on and off the ice.

The Flames had been reportedly waiting for a first-round pick to hit the table, and the Dallas Stars were likely the first to do it. Dallas is having a great season, tied for first in the Central Division with the Winnipeg Jets, and sitting third in the Western Conference.
