NHL Insider Reveals the Leafs' Future Plan to Potentially Aquire Two Calgary Flames Defensemen

This NHL insider has just revealed that the Leafs could be interested in acquiring two defensemen now, and both could be from the Calgary Flames.

Leafs Are Running Low on Defenseman After Giordano Goes Down With Injury

In last night's unique victory over the Florida Panthers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, unfortunately, lost another defenseman to injury, as Mark Giordano went down with an upper-body injury that could keep him out for some time, according to Sheldon Keefe.

Keefe says it looks like Giordano is going to miss some time. Doesn't have a final report on his upper-body injury just yet.

With the Leafs already short on a defenseman, they are reportedly looking to make a trade to help get some reinforcements on the back end. Now, Frank Seravalli has mentioned that they could be able to afford two major defensemen in a potential acquisition.

On the list of potential defensemen to trade are both Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev of the Calgary Flames. While it is unlikely that Brad Treliving could swing a deal to take both of Calgary's best d-guys, he could offer something big if he feels desperate enough.

Here is the full list of potential defensemen that the Leafs could be interested in trading for.

1. Chris Tanev, Calgary Flames
2. Andrew Peeke, Columbus Blue Jackets
3. Alexandre Carrier, Nashville Predators
4. Nikita Zadorov, Calgary Flames
5. Will Borgen, Seattle Kraken
6. Mario Ferraro, San Jose Sharks
7. Travis Sanheim, Philadelphia Flyers

Leafs Could Be Desperate Enough To Find Defenseman That Could Benefit the Flames in the Long Run

While it is unlikely Treliving gets both of the Flames' defensemen, the Flames are in a good position to build for the long term. They aren't necessarily done for the season by any means, but they could significantly boost their roster by using their defensive assets for long-term gain instead of risking it short-term.

The trade deadline isn't until March, but already potential partners for the #Flames are seeing needs to be filled. Is it already time for Calgary to catch the trade winds?
