Monster Proposal Would Send William Nylander And More To Winnipeg

The Leafs could be shopping William Nylander and his new home could be in Manitoba.

The Mock Trade

Recently, a mock trade has surfaced which sends William Nylander and Timothy Liljegren to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for some major pieces.




While this looks bad for the Jets on the surface, it makes a lot of sense after a closer look.

Why The Jets Should Do This

First off, William Nylander is an elite player. He is coming off a 40-goal 87-point season where he drove a lot of offense on a loaded Leafs team. On top of this, he is a playoff performer posting 10 points in 11 games last playoffs, and has a career total of 40 points in 50 playoff games, very high numbers considering how many playoff chokers there are in Toronto.


On top of this, the Jets would be receiving Timothy Liljegren who is a young 24-year-old defenseman who has boatloads of upside. He has yet to get his fair shot with Toronto and if Rasmus Sandin's performance in Washington is any indicator of what Liljegren could do with a change of scenery, the Jets should take this bet.


While these assets may not seem worth Josh Morrissey and Nikolaj Ehlers, they are considering how overvalued Morrissey and Ehlers are at the moment.

Morrissey is coming off of a massive season where he scored 76 points in 78 games. While this is fantastic, it is quite unlikely that he replicates these totals as his previous best was 37 points. If the Jets expect Morrissey to regress to the mean, he may be on his way out.

On top of this, the Jets also get rid of Ehlers who is coming off of an injury-riddled season which saw him post only 38 points in 45 games. He is also a player who is notorious for going missing come playoff season where he only has 12 points in 32 playoff games.

This trade would give the Leafs two highly overvalued players and give the Jets a star and a young defenseman who could develop into somebody better than Morrissey.
