Elliotte Friedman opened up on NHL Network that he believes the Canes have reached out to teams about the Finnish forward Teuvo Teravainen:

After signing Michael Bunting to a 3 year, $13,500,000 contract, it appears that the Hurricanes have backed themselves into a corner money wise.

Teravainen is entering the final year of his 5-year contract that pays him $5.4 million per season.

One of the Frontrunners for Karlsson

With rumours out there about the Hurricanes and Penguins being the top 2 landing spots for the 3x Norris winning defenseman, it is possible that the Hurricanes could be using Teravainen as a piece involved in a trade that would send Erik Karlsson to Raleigh.

However the 28 year old winger has a 10 team no trade clause that he would potentially have to waive, if the Sharks were on that list.
