The tragic cause of Stephen Peat's death is finally revealed
The tragic cause of Stephen Peat's death was finally revealed by insider Elliotte Friedman.
The past few weeks have been rough for hockey fans, as they had to cope with the tragic passing of the Gaudreau brothers and Stephen Peat.
Two weeks ago, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed by Sean Higgins, who was driving drunk and hit the brothers as they cycled home after their sister's wedding rehearsal dinner.
A day later, on August 30th, Stephen Peat was also hit by a car and passed away from his injuries on Thursday at 44 years old.
The NHLPA released the following statement yesterday:
"The NHL Alumni Association is heartbroken to learn that Stephen Peat has passed away from his injuries after a tragic accident just over two weeks ago."
Peat was a former NHL enforcer who played in 130 games with the Washington Capitals between 2001 and 2006. The 6'2", 230-pound right winger scored 10 points in his career and tallied 234 penalty minutes. He was drafted 32nd overall in 1998 by the Anaheim Ducks before being traded to the Capitals.
It has definitely been a tough few weeks for hockey fans, as they had to say goodbye to three people taken too soon due to car accidents.
Both the Peat and Gaudreau families are the true victims here, and we hope that time will bring them closure in the future. Meanwhile, let's keep them in our thoughts as we enter the 2024-25 NHL season, which promises to be an emotional one.
