We now know Ron MacLean's thoughts on Don Cherry's firing.

Don Cherry's Firing

Back in 2019, Don Cherry was fired from his role on Coaches Corner after some xenophobic remarks regarding immigrants.
Live on air, Cherry went on a rant that voiced his disapproval of "immigrants not honoring the fallen soldiers" and also called immigrants "you people".
After the incident, Cherry did not apologize claiming he stood by his remarks and was eventually let go for this.

MacLean Speaks Out

Cherry's co-host, Ron MacLean, has finally spoken about the incident nearly four years later.
Grapes was good at reaching his viewer and knowing what they wanted expert at that but we are held to a different metric or standard now, and I don't know if we could have made it much longer, MacLean said on the podcast. So I'm glad Don went out and people aren't that mad at him for what he said. They should be don't ever get me wrong. You can't project an attitude on people just because of where they're from. We were so wrong, and it just needed an apology and it would have been gone; we would have been onward and upward. But people aren't that angry about it. It wasn't the worst thing that's ever been said in the history of humanity, so he kind of went out on top and people miss him and I think that's kind of a nice way to be.

MacLean has voiced his disapproval of Cherry's comments and also felt that the two would not have lasted much longer considering their old-school nature.
While unfortunate, it seems like Coach's Corner with the two is a relic of the past that Canadians everywhere can look back on with fond memories.
