BREAKING: Ilya Kovalchuk Makes A Major Career Move
Former first-overall pick Ilya Kovalchuk has made a massive decision on the future of his hockey career by coming out of retirement.
Ilya Kovalchuk Makes a Surprise Comeback
Breaking the retirement mold, Ilya Kovalchuk, the 2001 first-overall NHL pick, is back on the ice, now playing for Spartak Moscow in the KHL.
While most hockey players wrap up their careers in their mid-30s, a select few defy the norm and keep going into their 40s. Kovalchuk made his debut for Spartak Moscow after retiring in 2021 following a season with Avangard Omsk in the KHL.
Throughout his career, Kovalchuk has been a polarizing figure. His early exit from a 17-year contract with the New Jersey Devils to return to Russia sparked controversy and divided opinions.
Despite this, he has a solid case for the Hall-of-Fame and may be able to get in based solely on his elite production.
