Winnipeg Jets' top prospect Rutger McGroarty has made the NHL rumor rounds and we now know why.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Jets top prospect Rutger McGroarty's name has been flying around trade discussions as he is yet to sign an entry level contract with his team. Drafted in the 2022 NHL draft at 14th overall, McGroarty has yet to sign and will be heading for another year at Michigan despite him showing he is more than NHL ready.
Very surprising piece of news today from

«His family advisor and the Jets are not talking, but the one thing I can tell you is that I have heard Rutger McGroarty has come up in trade discussions.»

The 2022 14th overall pick had 52 points in 36 GP for Univ. of Michigan (NCAA). McGroarty had previously announced that he was returning to school for his junior year. #GoJetsGo hold his signing rights for 2 more years.
According to a trusted source, he fears about the developmental plans that are occuring in Winnipeg.
Had a chat with a source today who who speculated that concern over Perfetti's situation last season and what the team has done with Ville Heinola (drafted in 2019, still in minors, waiting for waiver exemption to expire) could scare a player like McGroarty away.
McGroarty's name could start to appear heading into the NHL draft on Friday in Vegas.
