The Jack Adams is an annual award voted on by media members within the hockey community given to the league's best head coach that season. The trophy typically goes to the coach of the team that overperforms expectations the most. Now one seldom talked about coach is finally getting his moment in these discussions.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness has never been considered as one of the league's elite coaches. This season however, he seems to have found a little bit of magic as he has his Jets leading the league in points percentage.

The team is currently on a season-high 14 game point streak after they completed a comeback win against the Chicago Blackhawks last night in dramatic fashion.

 

Much of this success can be attributed to head coach Rick Bowness.

The veteran head coach missed a significant amount of the season earlier this year when his wife had a medical emergency. The club played well in his absence though and since his return, they have been nearly unbeatable. All of this is finally getting Bowness some consideration for the Jack Adams at this point in the season. He is already a lock to be at the NHL All-Star game this season.



This is a good sign that his contributions have not gone unnoticed. It could give him a leg up on other coaches for the Jack Adams. The fans themselves seem to believe that he is one of the top contenders as well.


We will just have to wait until the end of the season to reassess the Jets position, as well as that of other teams whose coaches could be in the discussion, most notably Rick Tocchet with the Canucks and John Tortorella with the Flyers.
