The Winnipeg Jets made a huge move this summer, trading away Pierre-Luc Dubois, and many believe they made that deal due to the potential and their belief in one potential breakout star.

Cole Perfetti

For a few years now, the Jets faithful have waited on Cole Perfetti to break out at the NHL level, and after a solid campaign a season ago, he's getting his chance to shine in 2023-24.

He's started well this season, tallying 1 goal and 6 points in just nine games of action thus far, but lately, he's seen an interesting reduction of minutes late in games.

Inconsistent minutes

When asked about the reduction of minutes in the third period of games, Perfetti had this to say.

"That's not really up to me, it's up to the coaches. I'm just going with the flow. Whether I'm getting two minutes or 20 minutes, I'm going to try and make the most of what I've got with that time,» said Perfetti, who has recorded four primary assists during his past four games. «If I can help contribute to this team win in any way, shape or form in any kind of minutes, my goal is to just to play my best with whatever I get. Obviously, you want to play more and more.

«Everyone has that in their nature. You get here for a reason, because you want to play, so I think everyone's got that in them — and I definitely do. I feel better when I'm on the ice getting more touches and stuff like that. At the end of the day, I'm just trying to do whatever I can with whatever opportunities that I get.»

While the 21-year old was smart in his response, it's clear he's just as confused as many around Winnipeg as to the lack of minutes late in games, as he now averages just over 13 minutes of game time this year, but as he continues to grow and find consistency, the team will no doubt improve those minutes.
