The Washington Capitals have been trying to keep their window to compete open for as long as possible.

One of the moves they made to try and get the team back to championship level was hiring a new head coach. Now one of the Capitals' most key players has given his opinion on his new coach.

Capitals Hire New Head Coach

The Washington Capitals shook things up this offseason by hiring a new head coach. On May 30th Spencer Carbury was announced as the new bench boss in Washington.

This will not come as a huge surprise to many, but hearing Washington is closing in on Spencer Carbery as its next head coach.

Carbery brings a new perspective to the veteran Capitals team. This will be his first head coaching job in the NHL with previous experience in the AHL and ECHL. With Carbery being only 41 years old he has a more modern take on the game. This modern style of play is particularly enticing to one of the Capitals stars.

Kuznetsov Praises His New Head Coach

During a media session on the first day of training camp, Evgeny Kuznetsov was asked about new coach Spencer Carbery. He had nothing but compliments for the new head coach when speaking to the media today.

The way he sees hockey, it's perfect match for me and a perfect match for guys inside the team,» Kuznetsov said of Carbery. «I'm looking for that, for sure: that coach that's gonna ask to create more, to ask to score some goals, to ask to hold on to that puck, to ask to skate with that puck.

Kuznetsov will need to get back on track if the Capitals are going to be successful. His production took a significant dip in 2022-23 going from 78 points to 55 points while playing even more games.

It sounds like Kuznetsov is enjoying his play more again and will be in for a bounce-back year. This could also mean good things for Alex Ovechkin's production increasing as he chases Wayne Gretzky's elusive goal record.
