REPORT: Auston Matthews Already Signed The Most Lucrative Contract In The NHL

Insider reports show that Auston Matthews has already signed his contract extension with the Leafs but they are waiting on one thing.

The anonymous insider "Eklund" has dropped some massive news regarding Auston Matthews' contract extension in Toronto.




The source is saying that the deal will be no longer than 5 years but that ensures Matthews will stay in Toronto at least past 2027 and potentially up to 2029.

However, William Nylander is demanding too much on his contract and will be moved before any contract extension is announced.

Where Will Nylander Go?

It is rumored that the New York Islanders are in on Nylander and are willing to part ways with some top assets to get him.

Eklund has confirmed that the Islanders are willing to part ways with JG Pageau and Oliver Whalstrom to acquire Nylander but it is clear that they will need to add much more if they want Nylander. Most likely, the Isles will have to part with a top future asset such as a first-round pick, and probably more.

However, once a Nylander trade is completed, we can expect a Matthews contract extension announcement.
