Despite being their leading AHL scorer, the San Jose Sharks lost hope in Barracuda forward Nathan Todd and placed him on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.

At 27 years old, Nathan Todd made an undeniable impression on the San Jose Sharks. They demonstrated this by signing the player last year to a 2-year, 2-way contract to get their affiliate team a chance at the Calder Cup.
"The #SJSharks have signed Nathan Todd to a 2-year, 2-way contract worth $775k AAV."
Todd, now 28, made an even bigger impact in San Jose with the AHL affiliate team, the Barracuda. This season, he earned his 100th point in the league.
"Nathan Todd's goal in Abbotsford takes him to 100 AHL points! Congratulations 👏🏻🎉"
Todd produced an astounding 55 points in 69 games with the Barracuda in the AHL this season. Unfortunately, this proved insufficient to the Sharks GM Mike Grier, who had the forward placed on unconditional waivers to terminate the player who had one year left on his contract.
The #SJSharks have placed forward Nathan Todd on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, per @CF_Transactions. Todd, 28, led the Barracuda with 55 points in 69 games this past season. Had one year left on his two-year, two-way deal.
Though many fans responded to the news with their take on the recent sale of CapFriendly to the Washington Capitals, others took the matter head-on. Those who have followed San Jose's franchises closely are not only upset about Todd leaving after one season, but that the Barracuda have been facing a mass exodus of their veteran players for far too long. Many attribute this to the high cost of living against the lower salary provided to players at the AHL level.
With Nathan Todd out of the picture for San Jose, the Barracuda will likely look for younger talent to add to their team. Hopefully, they can get at least one near-future season that does not end with the departure of the most competent players. If not, the Sharks could be stuck, once again, on thin ice.
